Defining a reading based line item

A reading based line item is a particular type of service based line item that calculates charges based on usage readings. The most common example is a line item for a metered water service. To define a reading based line item, select ReadingBased from the Type list when you define a service based line item.

In the Rate Change list, specify how the line item is calculated if the rate changes in the middle of a billing period. You can select these options:

• Prorate Charges: Line item is prorated based on the number of days each rate was active during the billing period. This is the default.
• Rate Period Specific: Sums the values produced by passing consumption to the rate tables effective at the time of the readings.
• Newest Rate Only: The most recent rate is used for the entire billing period.
• Oldest Rate Only: The oldest rate is used for the entire billing period.
