Defining a service based line item

Service based line items define how your agency charges customers for utility services, such as water or trash collection.

  1. Select Billing > Setup > Billing > Line Item Setup.
  2. In the Line Item Setup tree, under Utility, right-click the ServiceBased node, select Create ServiceBased Setup, and specify this information:
    Line Item
    Specify a name for the line item.
    Service
    Specify the service definition for which the line item charges.

    Click the popup button next to the Service field to open the Service Definition dialog box, which shows all the available service definitions in a tree. To select a service definition for the line item, browse to the correct node, select the node, and click Select. Each service type may include multiple service definitions with different rules for different districts and account classes.

  3. Click the Associated tab and specify this information:
    Type
    Select the service based type.
    Rate Change
    Select one of these options for how to bill for this line item if the rate changes during a billing period:
    • Prorate Charges: Line item is prorated based on the number of days each rate was active during the billing period.
    • Rate Period Specific: Sums the values produced by passing consumption to the rate tables effective at the time of the readings.
    • Newest Rate Only: The most recent rate is used for the entire billing period.
    • Oldest Rate Only: The oldest rate is used for the entire billing period.
    Rate Code
    Specify the rate code that is used to calculate line item charges.
    Rebate Group
    If the line item is eligible for rebates, specify the rebate group that will be used to calculate the discounts.
  4. Click Save.
