Selecting map features by buffer

The Select by Buffer tool selects features within a specified distance of one or more markers. Unlike the other selection tools, Select by Buffer both activates map features and selects the associated markers, and does not affect features that are already active.

  1. Select the markers you want to buffer around. You can select markers from more than one layer.
  2. Click Tools and select Select by Buffer.
  3. Specify the size of the buffer in the Distance field.
  4. Select the layer you want to work with from the Target Layer list. The list includes each layer that is currently visible.
  5. Click OK. The map draws a buffer of the specified size around each selected marker, and activates and selects the features in the target layer that fall within it. Features that fall either wholly or partially within the buffer zone will be selected.
