Tips on performing searches

Using the percent sign

When searching for a record or piece of information, use the percent sign (%) as a substitute for zero or other characters in search criteria fields. Search criteria fields are displayed at the top of various forms, such as lookups, popups, and browsers.

To search for information beginning with specific letters:

Type a partial word followed by a percent sign. For example, when searching for an employee name, type Bro% in the Last Name field to view all employees whose last names begin with Bro, such as Brown and Brodigan.

To search for information beginning and ending with specific letters:

Type a percent sign between those letters. For example, when searching contacts, type J%s in a Name field to view contacts whose names begin with J and end with s, such as Jones or Johnson and Sons.

To search for instances of a word in a record:

Type a percent sign directly before and after the word. For example, when searching assets, type %valve% in a Description field to view all assets in your inventory whose descriptions include the term valve, such as Intake valve 103 and Manifold drain valve B13.

To search for all records:

Type % alone in a search criteria field. This is only necessary in fields for which a text entry is required to perform a search. If you leave such fields blank and try to perform a search, a message is displayed indicating that at least one search criteria field must be specified. Typically, a search criteria field can be left blank to search for all records.

Specifying quick dates

When using From and To date fields to narrow a search, save time by clicking the Quick Dates button Quick Dates button and selecting a range, such as This Month or Last 90 Days. The appropriate dates are automatically entered in the date fields.
