Viewing asset failure information
You can view summary information about any failures recorded for an asset in a work order, along with the number and rate of failures recorded for this and similar assets during various time periods.
To view failure information, select the Life History tab on the appropriate asset InfoViewer, and then click on the title bar. The grid shows all failures recorded for the asset since it was first installed or put into service. To view details about the failure, you can click a Work Order # link to load the work order that identified the failure into the Work Order InfoViewer. You can then click the Failures tab to view details about the failure.
The fields at the top of the tab show the total number of failures recorded for the asset, the mean time between failures (MTBF), and the MTBF for assets of the same asset and unit type. These values are broken down for four time periods: the past 6 months, 12 months, 5 years, and 10 years. This table describes what these values mean and how they are calculated:
Category | Description |
---|---|
Failures | Number of failure work orders initiated for the asset during the time period. |
MTBF (Days) | Average number of days within the time period between failures. Infor Public Sector calculates this value by dividing the number of days in the period by the number of failure work orders initiated for the asset during the period. For example, if an asset had 3 failures in 6 months (181 days), the MTBF would be 60 days. |
MTBF (Unit Type) | Average number of days within
the time period between failures for all assets in your inventory that
have the same asset and unit type. Infor Public Sector calculates this value by first adding up the
days in the MTBF
(Days) fields for all assets in your inventory of the
same asset and unit type for each time period. That number is then
divided by the total number of failure work orders initiated for those
assets during the period. For example, say you’re looking at utility truck failures within the past six months. Infor Public Sector would first add up the numbers in the first MTBF (Days) field for all vehicles in your inventory with a vehicle type of Utility Truck, giving a result such as 220. Then Infor Public Sector would divide this number by the total number of failure work orders initiated for utility trucks in the past six months, say 34. The resulting figure, 6, indicates the average number of days between all utility truck failures in your inventory. You can use this figure to compare the current asset’s failure rate with that of similar assets in your inventory. |
