Failure definitions
A failure definition is a code for a type of breakdown or malfunction that an asset
in your inventory may experience, such as a broken timing belt on a vehicle or a faulty valve
on a pump. To record an asset failure, you add the appropriate failure code to a work order
for the asset.
You can limit which asset types can use a particular failure code. For example, your failure definitions for vehicles might include Broken Belt and Oil Leak, but you wouldn't need these codes for sewer pumps. When you record an asset failure in a work order, you choose from the failure codes that have been defined for the selected asset type.
The resulting failure information becomes part of your pool of data that you can analyze using the asset InfoViewers or the Failure Analysis tool. Failure definitions are also the basis for risk management in Infor Public Sector.
