Adding asset components

For some asset types, you can define asset components for use in inspections. A component is a part of a larger asset that you can inspect separately, as if it were a separate asset. Components are available for large assets, such as bridges, treatment plants, complexes, and a few other assets that you’re likely to break into separate parts. For example, you might want to inspect the railing, decking, and trusses of a bridge and record the results on a single inspection. This way, when you create an inspection you can use different indexes and observations for each component.

Note: You can add components both to an asset, using this tab, and to an inspection type. If you plan to add components to inspection types, we recommend against also defining components for the assets themselves. Defining components in both places can cause some components to be unavailable for an inspection, depending on which components the asset and inspection type have in common. Except in rare cases, we recommend that you define components for inspection types only.

See Adding a component to an asset inspection type.
