Dynamic segmentation

Linear assets such as roadways can be divided into segments for needs analysis. Rather than analyzing the entire length of the asset, Infor Public Sector analyzes each segment separately and recommends different activities as appropriate.

These segments are created dynamically, based on the rules that you specify when you initiate a need analysis run. If the asset groups that you select for the analysis include any linear assets, the Dynamic Segmentation Information page is displayed when you click Next on the Needs Analysis Information page. There are two ways to segment a linear asset: by feature or by length.

To segment by feature, specify one or more features in the Rules by Feature grid. Infor Public Sector will create a new segment wherever a point feature is located on the length of the asset, or where a range feature begins or ends. You can specify a general feature type, such as Attribute or Element, or you can use a specific feature within that feature type, such as a Surface Type attribute.

To segment by length, specify the length of each segment in the Length field.

You can also combine the two segmentation methods. If you specify a length as well as entering features in the grid, Infor Public Sector will first create segments by feature. The resulting segments are then compared to the length that you specified, and any segments that exceed this length are further divided.
