Segment definition for linear assets
Linear assets such as roadways can be divided into segments for risk management purposes. Rather than calculating a risk score for the entire length of a linear asset, Infor Public Sector calculates a separate score for each segment.
The segments are created dynamically at the time risk scores are calculated based on the rules that you define for the risk event type. There are two ways to segment a linear asset: by feature or by length.
To segment by feature, you specify a linear asset type and one or more features to use for segmenting. Infor Public Sector will create a new segment wherever a point feature is located on the length of the asset, or where a range feature begins or ends. You can specify a general feature type, such as Element or Marking, or you can use a specific feature within that feature type, such as a Guardrail element.
To segment by length, you simply specify the maximum length of each segment, and Infor Public Sector will divide the asset into segments of that length.
You can also combine the two segmentation methods. If you specify a length as well as one or more features, Infor Public Sector will first create segments by feature. The resulting segments are then compared to the length that you specified, and any segments that exceed this length are further divided.
