Types of fields

This table shows the different types of fields in Pathway UX:
Field Description
Date

Specify the date in dd-mm-yy format. For example, specify 020719 in the Lodgement Date field to indicate 2nd July 2019.

Slashes are not required, and the date is automatically displayed as 2/07/2019.

By default, the current month and year are used when specifying the date.

For example, assuming that the current month is September and the current year is 2020. User must tab out of the field. Specifying 7 or 07 shows 7/09/2020. Specifying 710 shows 7/10/2020.

Note: This field does not have a default value.

You can also select the date through the Calendar pop-up window.

The Year field only shows 5 years prior or later than the current year.

If a year is required outside that range, you must specify the date manually.

The dates provided use the Pathway Calendars. This means that any date you need to specify must set up in the calendar system of Pathway.

Time Specify the time in 24-hour format. For example, specify 20000PM in the Time field to indicate 2:00:00 PM.
Spin box Spin boxes are used for specifying numeric values. You can specify the number directly into the field or use the - and + buttons to adjust the values.
Text A text field is used to specify free format alphanumeric data.
Lookup

A lookup field is used where a set data value is specified. For example, when you click the Breed lookup field, a pop-up window shows a list of breeds for an Animal Registration.

You can specify the code directly in the lookup field. If there is only one match, the field is populated.

If you specify an incorrect code or a code that does not have a match, the full list of valid entries is displayed.

You can also search through the pop-up list. See Pop-ups.

Drop-down

You can specify single or multiple characters in the field and the resulting list is narrowed to the matching items.

For example, specifying “g” in the Residential Parking field narrows the field results in Garage.

Search / View

This field type is used typically where links are required to other modules.

For example, click the search icon in the Selected Name field to link to a name in the Name and Address Register.

Click the right arrow button to navigate to the currently selected name.

Click the stop icon to remove the current link.

In some cases, these fields are input capable.

For example, in the Application Lodgement, you can specify the property address in the Primary Location field. The navigation goes then to the appropriate module with the specified values.

Radio buttons Radio buttons are used where the user is required to select only one of the values.
Multi-select This field type is used where multiple values are acceptable. The list remains open until the user has finished their selection. The check boxes are used for selecting.
Tooltips Where provided, tooltips show additional information about the behaviour.
Busy indicator This icon is displayed when the system is busy. User action is not permitted until completion.
Tree Data is presented as a tree-like structure. Drill out is available on the subgroups within the tree.
