Processing

There are three major functions under the Processing stage. These are the Pull, Return, and Review functions.

Pull

A pull is when stock and non-stock items are taken from different supply locations for patients’ consumption. For example, a nurse goes to a supply location to get a syringe for a patient. This item is added into the Point of Use for Nursing application using a touchscreen, handheld device or desktop platform. The patient and item record is created.

Return

A return is when a pulled item is put back to a supply location and/or credited to a patient.

Review

The review function is a summary of pull and return transactions.

The illustration below shows Point of Use for Nursing's Processing stage and breaks the three major functions into different tasks.
