Configuring wedge scanners for scanning GTIN-14 barcodes

In a GTIN-14 concatenated barcode, element strings of variable length are followed by the Function 1 Character code (FNC1). However, most wedge scanners do not have a common representation of the code. To resolve this, it is necessary to configure each scanner to replace its default Function 1 Character code (FNC1) to '/' character.

On top of this, wedge scanners should be able to append a carriage return/line feed/press Enter button function at the end of a scan to get the device's full function when used in MSCM. Check the wedge scanner's reference guide for more information.

  1. Scan the "Enable Function 1 Character code (FNC1) Substitution" barcode that comes with the wedge scanner Reference Guide.
  2. Scan the "Set Function 1 Character code (FNC1) Substitution Value" barcode.
  3. Scan each digit of the 4-digit ASCII value that represents the '/' character, which is 1047.
    Note:

FNC1 may also be referred as "'FN1".
