Lost charge

A lost charge is the difference between the actual quantity of items issued to a supply location and the quantity of items charged. The difference occurs when patients or revenue centers were not charged for supplies that were used, or when patients or revenue centers were charged for supplies that they did not use.

The accuracy of the Lost Charge Report depends on when it is ran and when the replenishment of the par locations is entered. The person reviewing lost charges is aware of how the par locations are replenished. For example, if a company manually counts the pars, they would not run the Lost Charges report until the counts have been specified. The report may not reflect the par replenishment quantities depending on when they manually count and specify the par count.
