Creating expression columns

To maintain the columns for the DataView layout and the Edit DataView Expression form to build a single expression, use the Edit DataView Expressions form.

  1. While DataView results are displayed, click the feature chooser button represented by a gear icon.
  2. Click Expression Columns.
  3. On the Edit DataView Expressions form, click Add.
  4. Provide this information:
    IDO Alias
    Select the IDO alias for the DataView that is being used.
    Name
    Provide a name for the expression column.
    Caption
    Optionally, provide a caption for the expression column.
    Note: You can specify a translatable string or a literal string.
    Data Type
    Select the data type that is used to format the expression column.
    Expression
    Specify the expression.
    Note: You can also click the Edit button to build the expression. This button opens the Edit DataView Expression form.
  5. Optionally, on the Edit DataView Expression form, perform these steps:
    1. In the Function field, select what type of expression function to perform on the values returned for the expression column.
    2. Specify the operand values.
      Note: Click Edit to recursively open the expression editor to build or edit the operand value. The function information from the previous form is contained in the Containing Expression field, and the operand value placement is indicated by two apostrophes.
    3. Click Validate.
  6. Click OK.
To delete an expression column, select the row that you want to remove and click Delete.
