About Form Builder forms

Form Builder forms are forms that can be created in Runtime Mode, without having to use the Web Designer in web clients or Design Mode in Windows clients. Form Builder uses the Runtime Builder functionality to generate forms from a limited set of templates. The basic options are for full-function forms and various types of responsive forms.
Note: Before you can use Form Builder, these conditions must be met:
  • Form Builder must be designated as a Runtime Builder form on the Form Wizard Categories form.
  • You must be authorized to access and use Runtime Builder forms.

To create Form Builder forms, on the Mongoose toolbar, click the Runtime Builder icon. In the Runtime Builder Selection dialog box, select the Form Builder category and one of these Runtime Builder options:

  • DataMaintenance
  • DataView
  • Report
  • ResponsiveForm

About the DataMaintenance option

The DataMaintenance option opens the Data Maintenance Wizard. This wizard is used to create the infrastructure for full-function Mongoose forms. This infrastructure consists of the Intelligent Data Objects (IDOs) and property tables required to create and maintain a set of data.

Optionally, you can also use the DataMaintenance option to create an associated form built on the IDO and tables being created. This version of the Data Maintenance Wizard can create the IDOs and tables only for MultiView forms, Grid-Only forms, or Detail-Only forms. You can also create IDOs and tables for subcollections associated with the primary IDO collection.

Once the Data Maintenance Wizard is finished, you have the option to create an associated form. If you select this option, Form Builder then launches the Responsive Form Builder wizard.

About the DataView option

The DataView option opens the DataView Builder wizard. This wizard is used to create DataViews and associated report criteria forms that are ready to run without any additional designer work.

You can view the generated DataView record on the DataViews Setup form.

Note: Once the DataView is generated, you can create a DataView layout that you can use to organize the DataView display.

Generated DataView criteria forms are responsive, especially for mobile devices. In the DataView criteria form, you can click the Preview icon to run the DataView interactively using the DataView Results form and click the Print icon to run the DataView as a background report.

About the Report option

The Report option opens the Report Builder wizard. This wizard is used to create runnable report-type forms that are essentially the same as those created by the Report option in the Classic form wizard or New Form Wizard options, but without having to use the Web Designer or Design Mode to create them.

At the same time, this wizard creates a second form that is used to specify the filter criteria for the report output. Unlike other ways to create a report-type form that require a criteria form to be created separately or from a build-from-scratch form type, this wizard improves the process by creating the criteria form at the same time as the report-type form.

About the ResponsiveForm option

The ResponsiveForm option opens the Responsive Form Builder wizard.

Note: If you do not need to create an IDO and table for a new form, you can go directly to the Responsive Form option.

The Responsive Form Builder wizard is used to create these basic types of responsive forms:

  • FullForms or full-sized forms
  • Widget forms
  • Non-Data forms
