Importing forms metadata

When working in a partial trust situation (such as a cloud installation) or with the web client, you are restricted from accessing databases directly. In cases like this, you can export forms metadata using XML files and then import them onto a target system. This kind of situation requires the use of both the FormSync Export utility and the Import utility.

To import forms metadata using the FormSync Import utility, use this procedure:

  1. Open FormSync, either the form version or the stand-alone version.
  2. If you have not already done so, open the Configurations page and specify the Target configuration into which you want to import form objects.
  3. Access the FormSync Utilities page:
    • In the form version, click Utilities on the main page.
    • In the stand-alone version, click the Utilities icon on the Toolbar.
  4. Select the Import tab.
  5. Perform one of these steps:
    • Specify the path and filename of the XML that contains the metadata you want to import.
Note: You can import only XML files. We strongly recommend that you import only files created with the FormSync Export utility.
      • To select the file in a partial trust situation or in the web client, click Upload. This opens the Import Binary Data From File dialog box, which you can use to either drag-and-drop the file to import, or click Select File and use the dialog box that opens to locate and select the file to import.
      • To specify the path and filename in the Windows client form version and the stand-alone version of FormSync, click the ellipsis (•••) button and use the dialog that opens to locate and select the desired file.
    • As an alternative, you can copy and paste the actual XML file content that you want to import into the multi-line edit box (form version only). If you select this option, you must tab out of the edit box before taking the next step.
  6. In the Import Objects grid, select the objects that you want to import.
  7. Optionally, to include any form license data in the XML file, click Import form licenses.
  8. Optionally, to include any form template data in the XML file, click Import form templates.
  9. Click Import.
In the stand-alone version, this button is labeled Import objects.
  10. When prompted, click OK.
