FormSync, Configurations

Use FormSync to selectively apply upgrades supplied by a software vendor and to manage customizations during the development process.

Use the Configurations page of FormSync to select an option for FormSync operations and to specify your Source and Target configurations, as required by the selected option.

This is the first page that displays when you open FormSync, either the form version or the stand-alone version. Your choice of source and target configurations depends on the option you select on this page, whch in turn determines the types of tasks you can perform with FormSync.

These are the options available on this page:

  • Separate source/target configurations: Use this option when you have a new set of forms and objects from a vendor or business partner that you want to upgrade to and synchronize with your existing set of forms and objects. Use this option also when you want to perform FormSync utility tasks on forms and objects from either the source or target configuration.

If you select this option, you must specify both a Source configuration and a Target configuration before you can proceed.

  • Temporary source tables: (Not available on the form version of FormSync) Use this option when you want to use temporary tables during the upgrade. These temporary tables are inserted into the Target configuration by update processes and are used as the source for synchronization and utility tasks.

If you select this option, you need only specify a Target configuration.

  • Completion of automated upgrade: Use this option when you need to complete an automated upgrade by responding to the prompts and customizations acted on by the automated upgrade.
  • Scan/Fix forms and objects: Use this option when you want to scan the target configuration before an upgrade or synchronization. This option launches a dialog box that allows you to check for inconsistencies with forms, strings, and other problems. Optionally, you can also use this dialog page to attempt to fix any problems it finds.

Typically, you would use this option for any configurations that you know to be problematic during upgrades. When selected, you need only specify a Target configuration.

This page is also displayed when you perform one of these actions:

  • On the Synchronization options page of the form version, click Configurations.
  • On the opening page of the stand-alone utility version, select File > Change Configurations.
