BOM variants
You might want to create the same finished product with different materials from the Bill of Materials (BOM). Each different valid combination of materials is a BOM variant or a recipe.

Actual BOM
Sometimes, ERP sends a new variation on the BOM variant with every production order. In this situation, multiple BOM variants exist for the same material but for different production orders.
The BOM variant sent by ERP is referred to as the 'Actual BOM', because it is the BOM used for a given production order.
Consolidated BOM variants
When ERP sends actual BOMs, the BOM might match another BOM previously used for a different production order. Infor MES detects this scenario and consolidates the two BOMs into a single BOM.
Default BOM variant
One BOM variant must be designated as default. This variant is the main BOM variant for the material.
