Packing
Inventory Packs are physical collections of material, of a convenient size, to be able to be transported around the factory or shipped to customers. In many cases, the quantity of the inventory pack for each material is always the same. For example, 20 items in a box, 400 items on a pallet. To support such standard packing configurations, master data settings define typical quantities at these levels:
- Items Per Layer: The number of items in each layer when an inventory pack is structured in form of layer.
- Layers Per Pack:The number of layers per pack when an inventory pack is structured in the form of layers.
- Items Per Pack: The total standard quantity held on the inventory pack. If the inventory pack is structured in the form of layers, the number of Items Per Pack must be Items Per Layer multiplied by Layer per Pack.
When inventory packs are not structured as layers, Items Per Layer and Layers Per Pack can remain empty, and the total quantity is defined using Items Per Pack. With this master data available, inventory created during a manufacturing process automatically uses the defined Items Per Pack value as the default pack quantity.
Only one packing configuration is supported per material. Multiple packing formats (for example, packs of 10 and packs of 20) require a separate material number for each configuration.
