Inventory Created Date Mode

These are the available modes to create an inventory:

  • Start and Complete Pack: Inventory is created in two stages. The process begins with starting the creation of an inventory pack and specifying some key information. Later, creation of the inventory pack is completed with the remaining information.
    Note: This mode is required for processes where specific quantities of materials are consumed into the pack, such as batch and assembly operations.
  • Create Pack: Inventory is created in a single transaction once all required information is available. The start date of the inventory pack is assumed to be the same as the last pack created, or the production run start date if this is the first inventory created for the job.
    Note: This mode is used in discrete processes, where material consumption is recorded separately.

Create pack

This setting applies when an inventory pack is considered created only after physical completion and when all required information is captured in a single transaction. The information typically recorded includes:

  • Inventory pack number: Assigned manually by the operator or generated automatically.
  • Created from date: Represents the start of the pack creation period. The created from date is assumed to be the created to date of the previous inventory pack when production is continuous. If no previous inventory pack exists, the production run start date is used.
  • Created to date: The date when the inventory pack is completed.
  • Material: The material associated with the inventory pack.
  • Machine: The specific machine that created the inventory pack.
  • Position: The specific position on the machine that created the inventory pack. This is only relevant when inventory positions are configured.
  • Quantity: The final quantity of the inventory pack after completion.
  • Unit: The unit of measure used for the quantity.
  • State: The state of the inventory pack after completion.
  • Location: The location of the inventory pack after completion.
  • End production run: Option to automatically end the production run after completion.

When a new inventory pack is created, the application determines the start of the creation period by referencing the previously created inventory pack at the same position. If no prior pack exists, the production run start date is used.

The inventory pack is assigned a state upon creation, such as Created, Isolated, or Scrapped. Prior to completion, the state remains In Progress.

Start and complete pack

This mode applies when inventory packs are created in two separate transactions. The process begins with starting the pack and is completed later when the remaining information is provided.

Transaction 1- Start pack

This information is known when starting the creation of the inventory pack:

  • Inventory pack number
  • Created from date
  • Material
  • Machine
  • Position

At this stage, the inventory pack is incomplete and the status is In Progress.

Note: 
  • The application can automatically start a new pack when a production run begins, provided that pack numbers are automatically generated, and the production line setting is configured to start a new pack when a job starts.
  • Alternatively, the pack can be started manually.
  • Although the inventory pack record is created at the from date, the pack does not exist, and is not included in production figures or KPIs, until completion.

Transaction 2 - Complete pack

The inventory pack is completed by specifying these details:

  • Inventory pack number
  • Created to date
  • Quantity
  • Unit
  • State
  • Location
  • Start next pack
  • End production run

At this point, quantity, location and state are defined. In some scenarios, operators can change the state of the inventory pack before completion. For example, marking an inventory pack as isolated if there is poor quality material. Upon completion, the selected state is retained, and a new inventory pack can be started later.

Note: The application can simplify the process by automatically starting a new pack inventory pack after completing the previous pack. This requires automatic pack number generation and selection of the Start Next Pack option.

Any in-progress inventory packs must be completed before ending the production run. When an inventory pack is completed, the application provides an option to end the production run simultaneously. This is only possible when no in-progress inventory packs exist across all positions.

The application checks for in-progress inventory packs across all output positions when the production run is ended. If detected, a warning message is displayed to manually close other in-progress inventory packs or ignore before ending the production run. This option can be used when a new pack is created, however, the pack is never physically created.

Note: The Start and Complete Pack mode is used in batch and assembly processes. This mode ensures inventory packs exist before completion, enabling explicit material consumption with serial traceability.
