Shared Machines

Sometimes a machine can switch between production lines depending on capacity or workload. These are modeled as shared line sections.

For example:

  • Line A: Cutting -> Washing -> Assembly -> Palletizing
  • Line B: Cutting -> Washing -> Assembly -> Palletizing

The final machine in the production line is a palletizer, which puts the finished goods onto a pallet. These are the available palletizers:

  • Palletizer 1: Dedicated to line A
  • Palletizer 2: Dedicated to line B
  • Palletizer 3: Can be part of line A or line B, depending on production volumes

In this scenario, these line sections can be defined:

  • Line A
  • Line B
  • Palletizer 3

  • The shared Palletizer 3 can be assigned to Line A and Line B.
  • Selection of line sections occurs during production run scheduling.
  • Only one production line can use the shared section at a time.
