Scrap Collection Mode

Automatic

In automatic mode, a direct PLC connection supports scrap tracking:

  • Scrap counts are recorded at regular intervals.
  • A scrap counter in the PLC can be linked to a specific scrap reason.
  • A scrap counter not for a specific reason can be linked to an unknown reason in the application. The operator is expected to manually assign a scrap reason to the recorded counts.
  • Provides the highest level of accuracy.

Manual Real-Time

In manual real-time mode, operators record scrap counts as production runs:

  • Scrap quantities are recorded at regular intervals.
  • Operators must select a scrap reason for each scrapped quantity.
  • Greater operator effort is required.
  • Accuracy is lower than automatic collection.
  • Commonly used when PLC integration is unavailable.

Manual Retrospective

Operators record scrap counts at the end of period such as:

  • The end of the production run to record scrapped quantities for the order.
  • Or at the end of the shift to record scrapped quantities for the order before they hand over to the next shift.

The exact date and time of the scrap counts is not logged:

  • Only the total quantity is logged for the current period (hour/job/shift).
  • The total quantity is usually an estimate.
