Materials

A manufacturing material refers to any item used in or created by a manufacturing process. This includes materials such as:

  • Ingredients consumed during manufacturing to create semi-finished and finished goods. These materials are supplied by external vendors.
  • Intermediate materials created during manufacturing processes that are subsequently used in further production stages.
  • Final products created to fulfill customer orders and stored in warehouses for shipment.

Each material is assigned a unique number along with a set of properties and settings that define:

  • The material’s identity.
  • Packaging details.
  • Physical characteristics, such as dimensions and weights.
  • Instructions about the material. For example, instructions for production or for quality.

Depending on which modules are used, there are many settings to specify on a material.

Materials are normally downloaded from the ERP system and imported into Infor MES.
