Material Class

Material Class setting on materials is used to define how the material is used within manufacturing and related processes. The available material classes include:

• Raw Materials: Basic input materials consumed during manufacturing to create a semi-finished or finished goods. Raw materials are delivered to the factory by suppliers.
• Semi-Finished Goods: Materials created during a manufacturing process and used as inputs in subsequent production stages. These materials function similarly to raw materials, however, originate within the factory.
• Finished Goods: The final material produced which can be sold to a customer.
• Assets: Each asset in the factory has a model number. This model number is defined as a material and is specified when creating the asset. This is described further in the Asset module.
• Maintenance and Repair Parts: The materials used by the maintenance department to repair and maintain machines and other assets in the factory. These materials are sometimes referred to as 'spare parts'.
• Packing Spec: A definition of how a pallet, or other package can be packed, including the materials that can be packed and the quantity of each material.
• Packing Material: Supporting materials used during packing, such as clingfilm, wrapping, and cardboard protective layers. These packaging materials are not part of the packed product, however, contribute to the size, weight, and cost.
