Loading tools at change of production run
At the end of the production run, a tool remains loaded in the machine unless the tool is explicitly unloaded. When the next production run starts, the currently loaded tool is evaluated for use on the new production run.
A loaded tool is valid for the new production run when the defined tool properties match the material properties specified for the new production run. A tool without defined properties is also considered valid.
These conditions apply:
- If the currently loaded tool is valid and no other tool has been pre-allocated to the same position for the new production run, the tool remains loaded. A new tool usage record is created for the new production run. Otherwise, the tool is automatically unloaded.
- If another tool is pre-allocated to the same position for the new production run, the currently loaded tool is automatically unloaded, regardless of whether the currently loaded tool is valid. The pre-allocated tool is then loaded for the new production run.
- If the currently loaded tool is automatically unloaded and no tool is pre-allocated tool to the same position, the position remains empty. A valid tool must be selected and loaded for the new production run.
When a tool is automatically unloaded, the tool state transitions according to the configured asset state workflow. Tools are typically returned to the Available state.
