Tool cavity status

When sub-tools are not used, cavity availability is managed directly at the cavity level. Each cavity can be assigned one of these statuses:

  • Open (Good): The tool cavity is open and available for production.
  • Closed (Unusable): The tool cavity is blocked and unavailable for production.

When a cavity state is changed, a cavity state reason can be recorded to document the reason for the change.

As cavities are opened or closed, the tool can have one of these statuses:

  • Fully Usable: All cavities are open and available for production.
  • Partially Usable: At least one cavity is open for production, and at least one cavity is closed.
  • Not Usable: All cavities are closed and unavailable for production.

This approach is commonly used for multi-cavity injection molds, where one or more cavities can be temporarily closed because of a quality issue while the remaining cavities continue production with reduced output.
