Routing operation

A Routing Operation is a specific manufacturing step within a routing that defines how a production activity is performed. A tool can be loaded or allocated only when the tool meets the requirements defined for the corresponding routing operation. Each tool type defined for a routing operation is associated with a specific machine position, such as Position 1 or Position 2. Tool validation is based on the combination of tool type and position defined for the routing operation.

These validation rules apply:

  • If a tool type is defined for a specific position in the routing operation, the tool loaded at that position must match the specified tool type.
  • If a tool type and a specific tool are defined for a position:
    • Tool loading: The tool must match the specified tool type. A match with the specific tool is not required.
    • Tool allocation: The tool must match the specified tool type and the specific tool defined in the routing operation.
  • If neither a tool type nor a specific tool is defined for a position in the routing operation, no tool can be loaded in that position.
