Bodymaker Tool Packs

Bodymaker tooling requires stricter configuration and validation rules as compared to standard tooling. The Tooling module supports tools used specifically with Bodymaker tooling in a 2-piece can factory.

Bodymakers are machines used in the production of beverage cans. Each tool pack used in a bodymaker machine must have a configured cavity template that defines the required sub-tools.

For example, a tool pack for aluminum cans production can include these six types of tools:

  • Punch
  • Redraw
  • 1st Iron
  • 2nd Iron
  • Pilot
  • 3rd Iron

During production, these tools gradually wear over time and eventually require refurbishment. The refurbishment process includes polishing or grinding the tool components, which changes the diameter. Therefore, the sub-tools must be dimensionally compatible when assembled into a tool pack. The dimensional matching requirements are defined using progression tables.
