Tool Types
Tool types are used to categorize tools based on the design or intended function. This classification helps organize tool data, apply maintenance and inspection templates, and standardize reporting across similar categories of tools.
The settings defined for a tool type determine whether associated tools are configured as sub-tools, tool packs, bodymaker tools, or tools that share common properties.
Tool properties can be defined at the tool type level. As a result, all tools assigned to the same tool type use the same set of properties for description and classification.
Examples of tool types include injection molds, stamping dies, drill bits, cutting blades, and grinding wheels. Tool types can be defined to support the tooling requirements used in a manufacturing facility.
