Asset Types
Asset Types classify assets based on the entities that the asset represents. The predefined Asset Types cannot be modified or extended.
The asset types include:
- Facility: The manufacturing facility or plant.
- Area: The manufacturing hall or area within the facility.
- Line: The production line located in the area.
- Machine: The machine used in a production line or operating as a standalone machine in the factory.
- Location: The place in the factory used to store inventory or assets.
- Component: A component of a line, machine, tool, or ancillary equipment. Components can contain other components.
- Ancillary: The supporting assets in the facility, such as air conditioning units.
- Tool: A tool used on a machine to produce material.
- Gauge: A quality measurement gauge used in the factory.
- Container: A container used to move material or equipment in the factory.
Assets are uniquely identified by the combination of the asset name and type. For example, an asset that represents a location can have the same name as an asset that represents a machine. Similarly, when a standalone machine is created, assets with the same name are created for the machine and the related line.
Some assets are linked to other entities and are used for additional purposes beyond asset management. The asset for the following asset types is automatically created when the corresponding entity is created:
- Line
- Machine
- Location
- Tool
- Container
- Gauge
The asset name is derived from the source entity name and cannot be modified. Asset master data includes additional properties that can be used when required.
