Scrap Reasons

Scrap Reasons are used to record scrap quantities generated on a machine along with a root cause. Before you can record scrap quantities, you must configure the scrap reasons as master data.

Once configured, each scrap quantity is recorded for specific scrap reasons. The scrap reason must be defined to be collected in a specific unit of measure. In some scenarios, the specified unit matches the UOM of the material being produced, however, a different unit can also be used.

The unit for the scrap reason must either be the same as the material unit or have a defined unit conversion. However, in some scenarios, scrap cannot be captured or converted to a unit that links to the material being produced.

If the scrap counter is in a different unit to the base unit for the material, and the Convert to Base Units option is enabled, a conversion is captured when the scrap count is recorded. Disable this when the scrap count cannot be converted accurately. For example, when capturing a weight of scrap that cannot be accurately or statically converted to the base unit of measure.

The scrap count records the scrap quantity in the base unit of the material and the original quantity and the UOM used during data collection when the collected data differs from the base unit.
