OPC Clients

An OPC Client is an application that collects data from one or more OPC UA Servers.

An OPC Client can:

• Send individual requests and retrieve data on demand (ad-hoc communication)
• Subscribe to specific data items and receive updates automatically when the data changes
• Write values to PLC addresses through the OPC Server

An OPC Client definition is required for each OPC Client service that connects to support a specific Plant. The definition is associated with the host computer on which the OPC Client service is installed.

The OPC Client must also be configured with the appropriate Web API and Rabbit MQ Broker URIs, to ensure communication with the back end OPC Data Service. In most cases, only a single OPC Client is required to be configured per plant, as there is only one instance of the OPC Client installed.
