Replenishment Orders

Replenishment is the process of moving material from storage locations to other storage areas or to production lines based on material requirements. These requirements are managed through movement request definitions and replenishment orders.

While inventory can be moved around the factory without movement requests using the standard Move transaction, Replenishment Orders can be used to manage and organize inventory movements from a central point.

A Replenishment Order is an instruction to move a specified quantity of material from one location to another location. These orders support a variety of material handling activities that include:

• Delivering material from a warehouse to a production location for consumption.
• Delivering material from a supermarket to a production location for consumption.
• Delivering material from a warehouse to a supermarket to replenish stock levels in the supermarket.
• Returning unused material from a production location to the warehouse.
• Moving material produced during a production run to a warehouse storage location.
• Moving material produced during a production run to the next production operation.
• Moving material between locations within the same warehouse.
• Moving material between locations in two different warehouses.

Replenishment Orders can be generated in these ways:

• Manually: Operators can create request replenishment when additional material is required at a production line.
• Automatically: The application detects an event to automatically initiate a replenishment request. For example:
  • When the stock in a location, warehouse or supermarket falls below a defined threshold.
  • When a new production run enters into the changeover phase.
  • When an inventory pack is consumed.
  • When triggered from an interface with a third-party system.

When responding to replenishment orders, the same Move transaction is used to deliver the required inventory.

Multiple inventory packs can be moved to fulfil a single movement request.
