Shipping Inventory
Shipping inventory is the process of delivering materials from a factory to a customer. To manage outbound shipments, these concepts are used:
- Outbound Order: An agreement to supply a specified quantity of materials to a customer at an agreed price and within an agreed timeframe.
- Outbound Order Item: A material included in an outbound order. An outbound order can contain one or more outbound order items.
- Outbound Shipment: A shipment created to fulfill all or part of an outbound order. An order can be fulfilled through single or multiple shipments.
- Outbound Shipment Item: An individual material included in an outbound shipment. A shipment consists of one or more items and each outbound shipment item corresponds to the relevant outbound order item.
- Outbound Pack: An individual inventory pack included in an outbound shipment, such as a pallet, box or container, with a unique number and a specified quantity of material.
The outbound process manages the preparation and shipment of materials to customers.
The process includes these activities:
- Creating an outbound order that defines the material and quantities requested by the customer.
- Creating one or more outbound shipments to fulfil the requested order quantity. Each shipment item is linked to the corresponding outbound order item.
- Planning shipment contents by creating outbound packs and allocating specific inventory packs from the available stock.
- Preparing the shipment by picking inventory from stock and loading the selected inventory packs for delivery.
- Reserving the allocated inventory once the inventory packs have been picked and loaded. Inventory assigned to a shipment, is no longer available for allocation to other shipments.
- Marking the shipment complete after all required inventory packs have been picked and loaded. The shipped inventory is removed from the available in stock in the application.
