Downtime
Downtime is typically the biggest production loss when looking at the components of OEE. It is a major concern for most manufacturers, because lost capacity can never be regained. Machine downtime is often manually recorded on paper or in a spreadsheet. This can lead to poor accuracy and can make it difficult to analyze and drive improvements.
Infor MES Downtime functionality works in these modes:
- Automatically
- Through a connection to the equipment using a PLC.
- Manually
- Enabling operators to record downtimes in real-time or to enter it retrospectively at the end of the job or shift.
Downtime is any time that machines in the factory are not running, typically for these reasons:
- Production stops: When no production order is being executed on a production line
- Machine stops: When an individual machine is stopped
It is common for machine stops to overlap with production stops.
Caution:
Because machines do not run when there is
no production, production stops take precedence over machine stops.
