Material classes

These material classes specify what type of material it is:

Raw materials
The ingredients consumed by the manufacturing process to create new semi-finished and finished goods.
These materials are delivered to the plant by suppliers.
Semi-finished goods
Materials created by a manufacturing process.
Also consumed by future manufacturing processes to create new semi-finished and finished goods.
These materials are often kept in stock as Work-in-Progress (WIP) inventory, between manufacturing processes.
Finished goods
The final product, as ordered by the customer.
These materials are stored in a warehouse, ready for shipping.
Assets
Each asset in the factory has a model number that is defined as a material and is specified when creating the asset in Infor MES.
Maintenance and repair parts
These are materials used by the maintenance department to repair and maintain machines and other assets in the factory. These materials are sometimes referred to as 'spare parts'.
Packing spec
This is a definition of how a pallet, or other package, can be packed. It specifies the quantity of each material and how it should be packed.
Packing material
This is additional packing materials. For example, cling film, wrapping, and cardboard protective layers. These packing materials are not part of the material being packed, but do contribute to the size and weight of the pack, and do have a cost.
