Materials

A manufacturing material is any material that is used or created by a manufacturing process.

Types of materials can include:

Raw materials
The ingredients consumed by the manufacturing process to create new semi-finished and finished goods.
These materials are delivered to the plant by suppliers.
Semi-finished goods
Materials created by a manufacturing process.
Also consumed by future manufacturing processes to create new semi-finished and finished goods.
These materials are often kept in stock as Work-in-Progress (WIP) inventory, between manufacturing processes.
Finished goods
The final product, as ordered by the customer.
These materials are stored in a warehouse, ready for shipping.
Note: Materials are typically downloaded from your ERP, then imported into Infor MES.

Each material has a unique number and a set of properties and settings that define what the material is, how it is packed, and what properties the material has, such as dimensions and weight. Additionally, there might be instructions for the material and associated costs.

Depending on which modules are used, there are many settings that can be specified on a material.
