Production orders

A production order is an instruction to make a quantity of a material within a given time frame. They are generated directly from sales orders, or from a sales forecast, then issued to the production department.

The production order is scheduled to be executed on one or more production lines, creating the material to satisfy the production order.

Typically, production orders are managed in your ERP and follow this process:

  1. Your ERP sends the order to Infor MES
  2. MES executes the order
  3. MES sends the information about the order back to your ERP.
Production order number
A unique number to identify a specific production order for a quantity of material, typically issued by your ERP.
Production order reference
The production order reference is used to group production orders. For example, there might be two production orders: A1 and A2, where all of the material created in A1 is created for the sole purpose of consuming it into A2.
In this scenario, the two production orders can use the same reference to show they are related.
The production order reference can then be used in reports, such as a Production Order report that show related production orders.
Customer order reference
Single or multiple production orders can be attached to customer orders for a specific customer. They are relevant only in make-to-order or assemble-to-order scenarios.
