Scrap count
A scrap count is a timestamped record that a quantity of material was scrapped on a machine. Infor MES identifies the material from the current production order for the selected machine.
A scrap count is recorded periodically to tell MES that scrap has been produced. They are then added together over a time period or a production run, to show the total amount scrapped.
Scrap counts should be recorded as soon as possible for more accurate real-time data.
These are the methods of recording scrap in MES:
- Scrap counting: Count scrap during the production process
- Inventory Isolations: Count material that is identified as scrap after the production process
Scrap counts are used to record accounted scrap. It is possible to scrap the material being produced on the line and consumable materials in the Bill of Materials.
These are some of the reasons that might affect the quality of the material and therefore, the scrap count:
- Damaged raw materials
- Poor quality material made during the setup and ramp-up phase of a job
- Machines/tools producing poor quality materials:
- Tool needs to be changed or repaired
- Machine needs to be recalibrated or repaired
- Quality tests can be destructive, meaning the sample cannot be reintroduced into the production line
- Operator error can damage materials
- Natural waste in the process
