Common faults

When operators or maintenance engineers raise a maintenance request in MES, they can optionally select a common fault to describe the issue.

Using a predefined list of faults can have these benefits:

  • Reduces the time needed to type descriptions.
  • Provides clearer information for the maintenance planner.
  • Enables structured reporting across similar fault types.

Fault list definition

Common faults are user-defined master data. They are linked to the asset type hierarchy, allowing context-specific definitions for:

  • Facility
  • Area
  • Component
  • Ancillary
  • Container

In addition, faults can be defined by subtype within each asset type, including:

  • Line type, within line assets
  • Machine type, within machine assets
  • Tool type, within tool assets
  • Gauge type, within gauge assets
