Shipping
Shipping is the process of organizing and dispatching finished goods from the factory to
customers. The system ensures accurate tracking of outbound orders, shipments, and inventory
packs, supporting efficient order fulfillment and traceability.
These key concepts are involved in shipping inventory from the factory:
- Outbound order
- A contractual agreement to the customer that a specified quantity of materials will be provided for an agreed price, usually within an agreed timeframe.
- Outbound order item
- A single material on the order, with a specified quantity. An order consists of one or more order items.
- Outbound shipment
- An organized delivery from the factory to deliver some or all of the material required for the order. An order can be fulfilled through multiple shipments.
- Outbound shipment item
- A single material on the outbound shipment. A shipment consists of one or more items, corresponding to the relevant order item.
- Outbound pack
- An individual item of inventory on the delivery, for example, a pallet, with a unique number and a specified quantity of material. This is known in MES prior to shipping.
