Supermarkets

A supermarket is a logistics work center modeled as a machine with a category of 'Supermarket'. Each supermarket typically has a number of locations associated with it, where material can be stored.

More easily described as a mini-warehouse inside the production area of the factory, when material is required in production, it is delivered from the supermarket, improving the speed of delivery because of these factors:

  • Closer to production, reducing transport time
  • Smaller, making it easier to manually find the location of the requested materials
  • Less crowded, in terms of inventory, but also the number of people and forklifts and other moving equipment

A supermarket should not be stand-alone machines but machines linked to the [None] line section, otherwise they appear in reports and production dashboards.

Supermarkets support the Kanban process within factories.
