Warehouses

A warehouse is a storage space with multiple locations where inventory is stored. Warehouses can be located externally from the factory or internally within the factory. A single factory might operate multiple warehouses.

Warehouses store these different types of inventory:

Raw materials inventory
Received from suppliers, waiting to be moved into production for consumption.
Semi-finished material
Created during production and stored until it is ready to be used in the next process.
Finished goods inventory
Completed products, waiting to be shipped to customers.

Warehouses function as logistics work centers, modeled as machines with a location class of 'Warehouse'. Each warehouse typically has multiple associated locations where materials can be stored.

Here are some key considerations for warehouse setup:

  • Warehouses should not be standalone machines. They must link to the [None] line section to avoid appearing in production reports and dashboards.
  • Locations within the warehouse should be properly categorized to distinguish between raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods.

Effective warehouse management supports material flow, ensures production readiness, and prevents inventory bottlenecks.
