Asset state change reasons

Asset state change reasons provide a structured explanation for why an asset's state has changed. These reasons are defined as master data and help improve traceability, reporting, and decision-making.

Each reason is linked to one or more asset states and asset types. For example, the reason 'Post-maintenance inspection' might apply to both the 'Requires inspection' and 'Available' states for tools and machines.

Reasons are especially helpful in distinguishing between different types of state transitions that may otherwise appear similar, such as distinguishing 'Scheduled maintenance' from 'Reactive maintenance' when moving to the 'Requires maintenance' state.

Asset state reason sets

State change reasons can be grouped into reason sets. Each asset is linked to a reason set, which determines the valid reasons that can be selected when changing the state of that asset.

Reason sets help standardize the reasons available across similar assets, improving consistency and simplifying system configuration. A reason can belong to more than one set, allowing reuse across different asset categories or environments.

Asset state reason groups

Reason groups allow for the logical organization of state change reasons. They are used primarily for reporting, filtering, or analysis—grouping reasons that share a common theme or operational purpose.

For example, reasons related to preventive actions could be grouped together, while those caused by unexpected failures could form another group.
