Rework
In discrete manufacturing scenarios, a process might create inventory that is not of good enough quality but could be made good by either redoing previous operations in the routing by sending the inventory back to a previous operation, or performing some additional rework operations, typically on a dedicated rework line, or work center.:
Rework is only possible when the production model is inventory in progress. The rework job created is an additional job for the same production order that the inventory pack was created on.
These are the key factors for rework:
- A decision must be made that rework is required.
- The inventory must be directed to the correct place to carry out the rework. This must be either an operation in the routing or an optional rework operation that is schedule only when required.
- After rework, the inventory pack has to be directed to where it should resume in the process. It is assumed that from this point, all operations are executed according to the routing. This might not be a valid assumption in all cases, but in this case, it is supported as standard.
