Locations
Inventory can be moved between locations and the history of all inventory movements
is tracked in Infor MES and can be reported for any individual inventory
pack.
A location is a place where inventory can be stored. It represents a physical location in the factory or warehouse, with a unique name or code.
You can link locations to machines, warehouses, or supermarkets, and so on.
For example, you can link these locations to a machine:
- In location
- Where inventory packs of materials to be consumed into the process are stored. Typically raw materials and semi-finished goods.
- Out location
- Where inventory packs created by the process are stored. Typically semi-finished goods and finished goods.
You can define the physical dimensions of locations and inventory packs. MES ensures the inventory pack fits into the remaining available space before it is moved to a location.
You can restrict locations to store only certain materials or block locations to prevent inventory packs moving into or out of the location.
These are some examples of when this might be required:
- Performing a stock take.
- Ensuring that a location cannot be used for a period of time, for example, if a location is compromised due to a spillage or damage, or due to building work in the area.
