Inventory types

Infor MES tracks all inventory on its journey through the factory, with inventory levels at line-side locations viewed from the dashboards.

Inventory typically comes into the factory process in one of these ways:

  • Intake from a supplier, typically as raw materials.
  • Created in the factory as part of a manufacturing process. These can be semi-finished goods, stored as work in progress (WIP) and consumed later in a process, or finished goods that are moved to the warehouse and then shipped.
  • Recreated as part of a warehouse transaction. For example, a pallet of one hundred (100) pieces might be split into two pallets — one with forty (40) pieces, the other with sixty (60) pieces.

WIP is also easily visible. You can view semi-finished goods inventory and inventory in a certain location, for example, a WIP location.
