Production step build record

Typically, a process transforms material by consuming inventory, and then creating new inventory.

It might happen that the process does not transform the inventory. For this, MES needs only to record that the inventory has been through a particular machine, and therefore had the specific operation performed.

This not only gives a history of where the inventory pack was and at what time, but it also enables validation to be done to ensure the inventory pack has had specific operations performed..

An example of this is an oven process, where inventory is loaded into an oven and later it is unloaded. It is still the same inventory, but has been through an oven process.

When inventory passes through a process like this without transforming, it is known in MES as a 'production step build record'.
