FIFO

First In First Out, or FIFO, is an inventory strategy some customers utilise to ensure that the oldest inventory is consumed first. Inventory packs have a field with the FIFO number. This is populated on goods-in receipt or when the inventory is created and the FIFO number is automatically generated in sequence.

When consuming inventory, the FIFO number is checked to ensure the oldest inventory is consumed first.

Several options are available for defining FIFO rules which can be applied to the entire plant or per material. MES can be configured to warn (with or without forced acknowledgment) or error, when FIFO sequences are broken, and a variety of FIFO value conventions are available for selection.
