Inventory pack traceability
This setting is the default traceability behavior when consumed, dictating whether consumption is possible, and what type of consumption is expected. Usually a specific material always uses the same traceability setting, however this can optionally be overridden at a BOM item level.
The options are:
- No traceability
- It is not possible to record consumption for this material.
- This material never appears in the traceability report.
- Consume - specify quantity
- When consuming, the exact quantity from the consumed pack into the created pack is recorded.
- This is only possible when the inventory is being created, as the quantity is recorded directly between the consumed inventory, and the inventory being created.
- This type of consumption is known as a build record.
- Consume - unknown quantity
- When consuming, the quantity isn't known (and cannot be known by virtue of the way the process works) so the entire pack is loaded onto the machine. At a later date if the pack is not all used, the pack can be unloaded again and the remaining quantity returned to stock.
- This type of consumption is known as inventory usage.
- Material verification
- For some processes, such as assembly processes, it is important to validate that the correct material is being used.
- However, there is no requirement to record the quantity consumed, or the inventory pack that the quantity was consumed from.
- This is to prevent operators scanning the incorrect material.
